And lead us not into temptation,
“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matt 26:41)
Our merciful Father, though we are flawed and sinful people, we thank You that now through Christ we are now a new creation and a chosen people. We thank You for the Holy Spirit working in us daily to regenerate us as we seek You. We confess that in our present time, we constantly face temptations and struggle with sin. We often wrestle with the lusts of the world, the lusts of eyes and the pride of life. (1 John 2:16) Our spirit is often willing but our flesh is weak. Father, we thank Jesus, our High Priest, who in every aspect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin, is able to sympathize with our weakness. (Heb 4:15) Father, Jesus understood what we go through. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He commanded his disciple to watch and pray, because He understood the power of temptation and the greater power in watchful prayers. Please forgive us for letting our guards down often by ignoring Jesus’ teachings. Father, please renew in us a commitment to be watchful and prayerful, keeping alert with all perseverance, (Eph 6:18) so that we may not be fall into temptation.
Father, we thank you that today we can be a watchman for the Trunk-or-Treat ministry. As the Outreach Team and the volunteers enter into the final days of preparation, both excitement and anxiety levels go up. We ask you to guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus as we surrender all our anxious thoughts to You. Lead us not into any temptations that might cause us to sin or against your will, but please lead us to your sweet presence and peace that surpasses all understanding. (Phil 4:6-7)
Through the name of our High Priest, Jesus, Amen!
