Communion (Page 3)
The Lord’s Supper: Three Expectations
Tonight we’re taking the Lord’s Supper at Cornerstone. If you’ve done this with us before, you’ve probably noticed that whoever leads the supper gives a different introduction each month. This is on purpose. We want a variety of perspectives on the supper, both from me and other Cornerstone Elders when we have them. The more I’ve reflected on the Lord’s Supper, the more realize I have realized just how deep the theology of the Lord’s Supper is. All through the…
Christmas Communion: God With Us
Review Pastor Jonathan’s notes from Communion this last December leading up to Christmas. Use these notes to prepare your hearts for Communion this Saturday, which we celebrate on the first Saturday of every month. Pastor Jonathan reflects on Isaiah 7:14 and God’s promise to be with us, to dwell among his people. God fulfills this promise with us through Christ’s birth. Jesus Christ is still spiritually present with his church in a special way through the Lord’s Supper.
Christ’s Sacrifice in Communion
Please take the time to review through Andy’s communion notes from last month as you prepare to take communion this coming Saturday. Cornerstone celebrates Communion during the first worship service every month.
Heart of the Lord’s Supper
What is the heart of the Lord’s Supper? Watch the October 2016 Communion or read through Anthony’s presentation as you this coming Saturday.
Receiving & Giving Communion
In 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, we hear Paul talk about both receiving and giving Communion. Likewise, we both receive the gospel message through the Lord’s Supper and are encouraged to give it to others. Reflect on last month’s devotional as you prepare your heart for the Lord’s Supper this coming Saturday.
The Grace and Joy of Communion
Andy Bradshaw lead us through communion on August 6th, 2016. Please take time to review through his words to prepare your hearts for the Lord’s Supper. You can listen to Pastor Jonathan’s companion sermon here.
God’s Cosmic Plan: The Lord’s Supper
Review through Anthony Courtemanche‘s communion devotional from July 2nd, 2016. You can find the matching sermon here.
Global Communion
Photos from people taking communion all over the world remind us of a simple truth. Even as we do this as a church, we’re doing it as part of a larger global body, remembering what Jesus did for us. The Lord’s Supper is a global remembrance.
I Am the Bread of Life
As you prepare your heart for communion, reflect on Anthony’s meditation from last month on John 6:35. You can download it below the preview.
How Often Should We Celebrate The Lord’s Supper?
How often we celebrate communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is not prescribed in Scripture. There is no verse we can turn to that will answer that question. Some churches celebrate weekly, some monthly, others quarterly, and some only on special Holy days. Most protestant churches in the US have settled on monthly, typically the first Sunday of the month. But, why? The communion passage we use each month during the celebration of communion is 1 Corinthians 11:23ff. The words used during…
A Foreign Food
Why shouldn’t non-Christians partake of the Lord’s Supper? What’s so special about Communion that we need to limit or fence those who can participate? 1 Corinthians 11:28-30 hints at the answer. The Lord’s Supper is a foreign food for those who don’t believe.
Communion: It’s a Community Thing
Please enjoy this reflection on the Lord’s Supper by Anthony. Use it to prepare your heart as we again celebrate the Lord’s Supper this coming Saturday, the first worship service of the month.
