Politics | Jeremiah 29:4-14 (Faithful Presence)
Today I’m preaching on politics. I was just at my fourth Ockenga retreat at Gordon-Conwell and this was our topic. My goal today is not to convince you to vote for a candidate or issue or to review this week’s news but to help us all process how the Bible calls believers to think about politics. Today’s sermon is not comprehensive, but hopefully you’ll find it helpful, or at least thought-provoking. If you want to have a friendly conversation about…
The Certain Gospel: Where Jesus Stands Politically | Luke 20:20-26
Today I’m going to preach one of those sermons that I hope you will talk about on the drive home or at dinner afterwards with your family. Today I’m preaching on politics. I didn’t choose this topic because I thought, “You know what would go well with my son’s baby dedication? Politics!” No, I chose this text a while ago. Submission in November | Romans 13:1-7

Romans 13:1-7 gives us guidelines for how to live in these times. Should we keep fighting or is there some other solution? Listen to the sermon to find out.

Peter doesn’t tell them to reclaim society, but to come to Christ, focusing on building his kingdom. We are not to align ourselves with the world’s powers, but heaven’s powers. This seems irrational to many but Jesus’ way will always prove true. Align yourself with Christ the Cornerstone. #NoFearNovember Links: – Pew Research Study – Map…
No Fear November | Philippians 4:6-8
It seems like everyone is afraid this election year. In Philippians 4:6-8, an early Christian named Paul tells us we don’t have to be afraid of anything. The ruler in his time was an emperor named Nero who over the course of his reign murdered lots of people, but Paul was not afraid. Fear leads to two responses: 1) flight or 2) fight, neither of which is loving our neighbor as God intends. If you have a relationship with God,…
